Our Story

A tribute from the heart!

Two best friends, Kenny and Koen, travel from abbey to abbey and knock on the door of the Cistercians. They are welcomed with open arms. 

They get to know the monks. They have deep conversations and become more and more impressed by the authentic way of life and the inspiring wisdom of the Trappists. 

The trust is mutual and the young guests have the open support of the Trappist abbeys and the International Trappist Association (ITA).
A unique experience.

They want to share that experience because Trappist is so much more than a beer.

What a wonderful story!

You don't have to travel all over the world to enjoy Trappist products, in The Cloister you will find the largest assortment of Trappist products.

After tasting all the Trappist beers, Koen & Kenny longed for more. During their world trip, they discovered that the Trappist monks and sisters make a lot more than just beer. They also produce cheese, jam, soap, wine, chocolate, bread, liqueur, meat and much more that you can taste here. Each and every one of them is a traditional, authentic monastic product. 

Just like the Cistercians of the Strict Observance, which is the official name of the Trappist Order, we too donate a part of the proceeds from the sale to good causes. In doing so, we follow the example of the monks, who uphold a long tradition of selflessness.

 

Thanks to your heavenly experience in our cloister, we can help other people and projects.

Every product you consume with us has a story, and we love nothing more than to tell it. Because after all, Trappist is so much more than beer.

We lived with the monks in their community. Honestly, I could not do it myself. Their life is so different from ours. But I have enormous admiration for them and understand very well why they make that choice.

You might think: those Trappists live in the past. Nothing could be further from the truth. They are constantly innovating. And they achieve good turnover, which in turn benefits their many charitable works.

They brew to live and not the other way round. They do this with such respect for tradition, people, society and the environment... we could really take an example from them.

The Trappists do not push, they do not lure, they do not shout at the market. Nevertheless, their beers are so sought after. Because it is quality, of course. But also because it is so different from everything else. Many companies can learn from the way monks do business.

2 young, passionate people who run a Trappist café very well. Original and nice decoration, a bit of a brown café from the old days and all the Trappist beers from all over the world on the menu. Some also on draught... Very exceptional. Please keep up the good work. You can also eat very tasty cheese and meat platters... everything from Trappist monasteries.

Superb restaurant with a fantastic concept! This place is run by two passionate young guys. A delicious collection of Trappist beers, known and (to me) unprecedented! You can also enjoy an assortment of cheese and other products. There is a cosy atmosphere in the shop and it is beautifully decorated!
